Trade & Supply Chain Due Diligence

Traditional due diligence often overlooks the complex and volatile world of international trade. Our International Trade Assessment integrates trade and supply chain analysis directly into your due diligence process, ahead of any sale, merger, acquisition or investment.

Trade & Supply Chain Due Diligence

Why it matters

Rising geopolitical tension, mounting supply chain pressure, and fast-moving sustainability regulation are adding layers of risk that conventional commercial, legal and financial due diligence does not capture. Our assessment identifies the errors, risks and missed opportunities that could affect valuation or investment decisions.

Step 1: Information gathering

We map the target's trade flows, documentation and contracts to identify focus areas and the data needed.

Step 2: Risk and opportunity analysis

We assess trade practices and operations against international and domestic rules to flag risk and underused opportunities.

Stage 3: Informed decision-making

We deliver a clear, benchmarked ranking of trade and geopolitical risk, with mitigating actions and next steps.

Sustainability & CBAM Support

Sustainability is becoming a core part of trade compliance, not a side issue. The EU's Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism, now in its definitive phase, and the UK's equivalent mechanism due from January 2027, are early examples of a wider shift: carbon and environmental standards are increasingly built directly into market access rules.

Frequently asked questions

What is trade intelligence, and why does it need continuous monitoring rather than periodic advice?

Trade intelligence is the continuous reading of the measures that affect your products, markets and suppliers, translated into commercial decisions. It differs from periodic advice because trade policy is no longer episodic: significant developments now occur most days, and one change moves several others. The EU’s melt-and-pour origin test for steel, in force from October 2026, illustrates the point; a single rule reshapes safeguard quotas, CBAM defaults, recycled-content costs and preference eligibility at once. Firms that see a change early trace it through the different impacts.

How is Goyder different?

Most trade advice describes a measure and stops. Goyder works to quantify exposure and is built for continuity rather than one-off projects. Three points distinguish the work. First, judgements are sized in revenue terms against your trade flows, not narrated. Second, six years representing the UK at the WTO, UN and OECD means measures are read the way those who draft them intend. Third, delivery is tailored to the needs.

What do you deliver?

Delivery is framed around four connected services: horizon scanning so measures are seen first; exposure analysis that sizes tariff, non-tariff and compliance impact in revenue terms; strategic and regulatory advice with a clear recommendation; and capability building for teams that want to run more themselves. On a standing retainer, the rhythm is a daily scan, weekly triage, a monthly executive briefing and a quarterly review, mapped to your exposure register. Formats suit how your team works.

Can you help us build our own in-house trade intelligence function?

Yes. Where exposure is permanent, an owned capability can be cheaper and faster than a standing retainer for routine work, and Goyder is structured to build it. A phased engagement runs over roughly eighteen weeks: map the exposure, design the operating model and decision rights, equip it with sources, templates and an exposure register, then embed through a parallel run, training and handover. The function operates a five-stage pipeline, signal to triage, assessment, decision and monitoring, on a fixed cadence. Ownership transfers to your team. Goyder then remains the specialist escalation partner for quantification, interpretation and the harder calls.

Can you support supply chain and trade due diligence obligations?

Yes, from a trade and exposure standpoint. Due-diligence regimes now condition market access, so we monitor them and map where they touch your corridors and suppliers. Coverage includes a range of rapidly developing supply chain regulations including carbon border adjustment mechanisms, deforestation, supply chain due diligence and forced labour. We identify the origin, traceability and content evidence a measure demands, and assess the cost of non-conformity.
